Doug Welykholowa

Born and raised in Kamsack, Saskatchewan, Doug served 30 years in the Canadian Army as an artillery officer, retiring in 2002 to pursue art full time.   He has always been passionate about art, and watercolours in particular.  He is also an avid photographer, and he recently added digital art to his palette. His subjects include prairie landscapes, old buildings, vehicles and derelict industrial and agricultural machinery. Doug also provides a fine art printing service for other artists.

“I am fascinated by the rich colours and textures found in nature, particularly weathered wood and rusted, worn metal.   I strive to improve my techniques while allowing my art to evolve.  I have much to learn - enough to fill two lifetimes.”

Doug has received numerous awards for his art, including the 2005 Calgary Stampede Western Art Show Gallery Collectors Choice Award. He has been a regular contributor to the Stampede Art Auction since 2007.  His paintings and prints hang in public and private collections across Canada, the USA, Europe and Australia.
